Flicx Companion
The helper inside Flicx Sheet. You tell it what you want in plain words, and it finds things, answers questions and makes changes for you, after asking.
What Flicx Companion is
Flicx Companion is a helper that lives inside the app. You type what you want, the way you would ask a person, and it does the work. This saves you from hunting through menus.
It can only see what you yourself can see in Flicx Sheet. Here is what it can help with.
| Area | What you can ask for |
|---|---|
| Sheets | Read a sheet and answer questions about it. Find a row. Work out totals, averages, the highest and the lowest. Change cells, add or delete rows and columns, make a new sheet with your data, add a total row that keeps itself up to date, group rows, rename or move a sheet. |
| To-do | Add a task, change it, tick it off, move it or delete it. Break a task into smaller steps. Set a reminder, or put one off till later. |
| Calendar | Tell you what is on a day. Add, change or delete an entry. Find a free hour. |
| Notes | Find and read your notes. Write a new note, add to one, stick a note on a row, a cell or a whole sheet, add a picture to a note, tick items in a note's checklist. |
| Library | Find a file or a folder and open it. Read what is inside a file. Make folders, rename, move or delete files. Play your photos as a slideshow. Make a public link to a sheet or a file, and take the link back. |
| PDF reports | Turn a sheet into a neat PDF. See PDF reports and the PDF editor. |
| The web | Look something up on the web and read a web page for you. |
| Jobs and resumes | Check your resume against a job, and pass its findings to Resume Assist. |
| Moving around | Take you to a sheet, a page, a day on the calendar, a note or a file. Join a team call, after asking. |
Open the Companion
On a computer the Companion is always one click away, on every page.
- Click the round green button at the bottom right of the window (1). The Companion panel opens.
- To close it again, click the cross at the top right of the panel. Your chat is kept.
TipIs the round button covering something? Hold the mouse button down on it and drag it to another spot. It stays where you leave it in that browser. Double-click it to send it back to its corner.
On a phone there is no round button. Tap Companion in the bar at the bottom of the screen.
Please noteThe first time you open the Companion each day, with no chat open, it starts by itself with a short note on how your week is going. This counts as one message.
The panel, part by part
- Your credits. Every message you send uses one. See Credits.
- Dock to the side. Stands the panel down the right side of the window. See Dock it to the side.
- Your conversations. Opens the list of your past chats.
- New chat. Starts a fresh chat. The old one stays in the list.
- The cross closes the panel.
- The three dots. Press it to attach a file or a photo, or to open the bigger writing box.
- The green arrow sends your message. On a computer you can also press the Enter key.
Under the name, the panel tells you which sheet it is looking at, for example Looking at “Budget”. When you say "this sheet", that is the one it means.
When a chat is empty, four ready-made questions are shown. Click one to send it.
TipA floating panel can be moved and stretched. Drag it by its top bar, or drag any edge to make it bigger. A small button, Back to the default size and place, then appears in the top bar.
Ask in plain words
There are no commands to learn. Type what you want, in the words you would use with a helper in your shop or office, and send it.
Some requests to try:
How much did we spend on groceries in March?Add a row: Joseph, Madurai, coming with 2 guestsMark Meena's fees as paidAdd a column called Phone number after NameMake a new sheet for the Ooty trip with columns Item, Cost and Paid byRemind me to pay the electricity bill on 12 July 2026 at 10 amWhat is on my calendar tomorrow?Find the photo of the gas billAdd a total row at the bottom of this sheetWrite a note with the things to carry for the wedding
The Companion works where you are. If a sheet is open, "add a row" means that sheet. If you are on the To-do page, "add" means a new task in the open list. To work on something else, say its name.
When a reply mentions a sheet or a page, a small button appears under the reply. Click it to go there.
If the Companion writes something for you to use elsewhere, such as a message to a vendor, it puts it in a box with a Copy button.
TipIn the usual one-line box, Enter sends the message. To start a new line without sending, hold Shift and press Enter.
Please noteThe Companion is told to use only the figures it reads from your sheets. Even so, look over important numbers yourself before you rely on them.
Attach a file or a photo
You can show the Companion a picture or a file and ask about it. For example, send a photo of a handwritten list and ask it to make a sheet from it.
- Attach a file: choose a file from your computer.
- Pick from your Library: choose files already in your Library. They stay where they are.
- Take a photo with your phone: use your phone's camera for the picture.
- Write with headings and lists: open the bigger writing box.
The file then waits just above the message box. Type what to do with it and send. To remove it before sending, click the small cross on it.
- You can attach pictures, PDFs, and text or CSV files.
- Up to 6 files go with one message.
- A PDF can be up to 8 MB, a picture up to 30 MB and a text file up to 2 MB. Anything bigger should go into your Library instead.
- On a computer you can also drag a file onto the panel, or paste a picture into the message box.
On a phone, the three dots open a short list instead: Take a photo, Attach a file and Pick from your Library.
An attached file is not saved anywhere by itself. If you want to keep it, ask: Save this to my Library, or Put this photo in the Receipt cell of row 4.
Please noteThe Companion looks at the files in your newest message only. To ask again about an older file, attach it again.
Point at cells or note text
Sometimes it is easier to point than to describe. You can hand the Companion a few cells of a sheet, or some words from a note, and then ask about just those.
- In a sheet, select the cells you want. Right-click one of them and choose + Flicx Companion (1).
- The Companion opens, and a small label such as 4 cells waits above the message box (2).
- Type your question and send it (3).
In a note it works the same way. Select some words, right-click them, and click + Flicx Companion. The label then reads something like From a note, 12 words.
You can add up to 6 such pieces to one message. Click the small cross on a label to remove it.
It asks before it changes anything
The Companion does not quietly change your work. Before it adds, changes or deletes something, it shows a card in the chat and waits for you.
- The small i button shows exactly what will change, for example each cell with its old and new value. Not every card has one.
- Not now cancels. Nothing is changed.
- The green button does it. Its word says what will happen: Add, Change, Delete, Save and so on.
Read the card before you press the green button, most of all when it says This cannot be undone.
A few small, harmless things are done straight away without a card, such as pinning a row or making a folder in your Library.
Dock it to the side
A floating panel sits on top of your sheet. If you want to see both at once, dock it. The page then makes room and the Companion stands beside it.
- Open the Companion.
- Click Dock to the side in its top bar (1).
- To let it float again, click the same button. It now reads Float over the page.
Your choice is remembered in that browser. Docking is for computers. On a phone the Companion opens from the bottom of the screen.
The bigger writing box
For a long message with steps or a list, the one-line box is too small. On a computer you can open a bigger one.
- Click the three dots beside the message box.
- Click the pen icon, Write with headings and lists.
- Type your message. The small buttons above it give you Heading, Bold, Italic, Bulleted list, Numbered list, Quote and Code.
- Click the green arrow to send. You can also hold Ctrl and press Enter.
In this box the Enter key starts a new line. It does not send. To go back to the small box, click the down arrow at the right of the buttons, Back to one line. Your words come with you.
Past chats
Every chat is kept with your account once you send a message, so you can come back to it later, on this device or another.
- Click the clock icon, Your conversations, in the top bar of the panel.
- Click a chat in the list to open it. Each one shows how long ago you last used it.
- To give a chat a better name, click the pencil beside it.
- To remove a chat, click the bin beside it and confirm.
- Deleting a chat removes its messages for good. Anything it made in your sheets, notes or Library stays.
- When you open the Companion again, the chat you used last comes back.
- Pictures and files you attached are not kept with a saved chat. Only a line saying one was there.
- A very long chat keeps its latest 50 exchanges. Older ones drop off the top.
Credits
The Companion runs on credits. The rule is simple: each message you send uses one credit. It does not matter how much work the Companion does to answer it.
- Your credits show in the top bar of the panel, for example 286 credits. The number turns red when 20 or fewer are left.
- If the Companion is too busy to answer and shows an error, that credit is not used. Press Retry.
- The buttons on a PDF preview that change its look do not use credits.
- The same credits are used by Resume Assist, and when a photo or a PDF is read into a sheet. See Bank statements and receipts.
When your credits run out, the chat shows a card that says You've used all your companion credits.
- On the card, choose how many to ask for: 100, 300 or 1000.
- If you like, type what you need them for.
- Press the button, for example Request 300 credits.
The card then says your request is waiting for an administrator. You cannot send messages until credits are added.
What it will not do
- It will not change or delete your work without showing you a card first, apart from the few small things named above.
- It will not see anything you cannot see yourself. A sheet nobody shared with you stays hidden from it too.
- It will not take orders from your files. Words inside a sheet, a note, a picture or a PDF are treated as your content, never as instructions.
- It will not tell you how it works inside. It is simply Flicx Companion.
- It will not help with anything that breaks the Flicx Sheet Terms of use. It tells you so and, where it can, suggests a proper way to reach your goal.
- It cannot read a video or a zipped file.
- It searches the web at most 5 times, and reads at most 10 web pages, for one message.
Common questions
Do I have to write in a special way? No. Write as you speak. If the Companion is not sure what you mean, it asks.
It made a mistake. What now? If a card is showing, press Not now. If the change is already made, tell it what to put right, or correct the sheet yourself.
The Companion says a chat part is missing. In a very long chat it may no longer have the early part. Tell it again, or start a New chat.
Can I move the panel out of the way? Yes. Drag it by its top bar, dock it to the side, or close it. The round button can be dragged too.
Where is the round button on my phone? A phone has none. Tap Companion in the bar at the bottom.
Does opening the Companion use a credit? Opening it does not. Sending a message does. The daily greeting that starts by itself counts as one message.
