Resume Assist

Build a resume by talking to a helper, aim it at a job you want, write a cover letter for it, and keep finished copies in your Library.

What Resume Assist does

Writing a resume is hard when you start from an empty page. Resume Assist gives you a helper to do it with. The app calls this helper the agent. You tell it about your work in your own words, and it writes the resume for you, on a page you can see beside the chat.

  • It writes a new resume, or rebuilds the one you already have.
  • It changes the resume to suit a job you are applying for.
  • It writes a cover letter for that job.
  • It remembers what you tell it about your work, so the next resume is quicker.
  • It helps with the questions on an application form.
  • It saves the finished resume as a PDF in your Library.

Please noteEach message you send to the agent uses one credit. These are the same credits that Flicx Companion uses. See Credits.

Open Resume Assist

Where to find itTop barUtilitiesResume Assist

  1. On a computer, click Utilities in the bar across the top.
  2. Click Resume Assist. It opens over the whole window.
  3. To leave, click the back arrow at the top left. Your resume is kept.

On a phone, tap More in the bar at the bottom, then Resume Assist.

Flicx Companion can also bring you here. If you ask it whether your resume suits a job, it offers to take what it found to Resume Assist.

Start your first resume

The first time, Resume Assist shows three ways to begin.

Three ways to begin.
  1. Start from a template. Pick a layout from the cards that appear, then press Create resume. The layouts are Compact, Jake's Resume, Classic and Modern. Compact is the usual choice.
  2. Upload or pick my current resume. Press Upload to choose a file from your device, or From the Library to choose one kept in your Library. It can be a PDF, a picture or a Word file. The agent rebuilds it here and saves what it says about you.
  3. Start blank. You get the usual layout with nothing in it. Tell the agent about yourself and it writes the resume.

TipIf you have an old resume, even a photo of a printed one, use the second way. It saves a lot of typing.

The workspace

Once a resume is open, the screen has two sides. The chat with the agent is on the left. The resume, as it will look on paper, is on the right.

The chat on the left, the resume on the right.
  1. The paper clip. Use it to give the agent a job description or your current resume.
  2. Quick asks. Ready-made requests you send with one click.
  3. Resume and Cover letter. Switch between the two documents.
  4. Save to Library. Saves the finished resume as a PDF.
  5. What I know about you. The facts the agent has saved about you.
  • Click the resume's name to rename it.
  • The small word beside the name, Saved, tells you your work is kept. Resume Assist saves by itself as you go.
  • Undo and Redo, the two curved arrows, take back or bring back a change. They work for the agent's changes as well as yours.
  • You can drag the line between the two sides to make either one wider.

On a phone you see one side at a time. Two buttons at the top, Chat and Resume, switch between them.

Tell the agent about your work

Type the way you would tell a friend. The agent turns it into proper resume lines and puts them on the page.

  • I taught maths at Bright Tuition in Madurai from 2019 to 2025, classes 8 to 10, about 60 students a year
  • Add my B.Com from 2018
  • I know Tally, GST billing and Excel
  • Make the summary shorter
  • Move education below experience

When the agent learns something about you, a line appears in the chat: Saved to your experience. If it saved something wrongly, press Undo on that line.

Under the chat are quick asks. Add experience starts adding a new job. Application form gets help with the questions on a form.

A long answer from the agent has a Copy answer button under it, so you can paste it into an application form.

Please noteThe agent writes from what you tell it. Read every line of the resume yourself. You are the one who must stand by it in an interview.

Aim the resume at a job

A resume works better when it answers what one job asks for. Give the agent the job advertisement and it will shape the resume to it. The screen shortens job description to JD.

The paper clip menu.
  1. Ways to give a job description. JD from a link: paste the web address of the advertisement. JD as text: paste the words of the advertisement. JD file: choose a PDF, a text or Word file, or a picture. JD from the Library: choose a file kept in your Library.
  2. Ways to give your present resume, for the agent to draw on: Reference resume (upload) and Reference resume from the Library.

Some job sites show an advertisement only after you sign in. A link to such a page cannot be read. Use JD as text and paste the words instead.

The job description is also filed as a note, in a workbook called Job descriptions, so you can find it later. See Notes.

Once a job description is in use, more quick asks appear under the chat:

Quick askWhat it does
Tailor to JDChanges the resume to suit this job.
What is missing?Tells you what the job asks for that your resume does not show.
Cover letterWrites a cover letter for this job.
Why hire you?Writes your answer to that common question, for this job.

To stop aiming at that job, open the paper clip menu and choose Stop using this job description.

TipApplying for several jobs? Open the list beside the resume's name and choose Duplicate for this role. You get a copy named after the job, and the first resume stays as it is.

Length and the exact PDF

Beside Length you choose One page or Multiple pages. The agent then keeps the resume to that. On a phone, this choice is under the Options button.

The page you see while working is a quick preview. It is drawn on your device and changes at once. Its page breaks are close but not exact.

For the real pages, press Compile exact PDF. The first time, the app tells you that the exact PDF is prepared by an online service and asks you to agree. The quick preview never leaves your device.

If the exact PDF cannot be made, a red message appears with a button, Ask the agent to fix it. Press it and the agent puts it right.

Beside Preview is a tab called LaTeX. It shows the resume as typesetting code. You never need to open it. It is there for people who like to edit that code by hand.

Save the finished resume

  1. Read the resume once more on the right side.
  2. Press Save to Library.
  3. A line appears with the file's name and how full the page is, for example 1 page, 92% full. Press Open on that line to see the PDF.

Where to find itTop barLibraryMy filesResumes

The PDF is kept in a folder called Resumes in My files. Each save makes a new version, named with a number: Priya resume v1.pdf, then v2 and so on. Older versions stay. A second file with the same name, ending in .tex, holds the typesetting code for that version.

From the Library you can download the PDF or share it. See Library.

Write a cover letter

A cover letter is the short letter that goes with a resume. Resume Assist keeps one with each resume.

  1. Give the agent a job description first, with the paper clip.
  2. Click Cover letter above the page.
  3. Click Write a cover letter. The agent writes it from the job description, your resume and what it knows about you.
  4. To change the words yourself, open the Edit tab.

In the Edit tab, six boxes hold the parts round the letter: Addressed to, Company, Role, Date, Greeting and Closing. If you leave Date empty, today's date is used. Your name and contact line are taken from the resume.

Save offers three choices:

  1. As a note. The letter is kept as a note in a workbook called Cover letters.
  2. As a PDF in the Library. A PDF is saved in the Resumes folder.
  3. Both.

You can also write the whole letter yourself. Click Write it myself and type in the Edit tab.

What the agent knows about you

The agent keeps a list of facts about you, so you do not have to repeat yourself for every resume. You can read and correct this list at any time.

What I know about youSearch your factsAdd1EXPERIENCEMaths tutor, Bright Tuition2019 to 2025, classes 8 to 102SKILLSTally and GST billingEDUCATIONB.Com, Madurai
The facts the agent has saved.
  1. Add a fact yourself: choose its kind, give it a short title, and write the fact in your own words.
  2. The pencil changes a fact. The bin removes it.

Facts are grouped as About you, Experience, Projects, Skills, Education, Achievements, Certifications and Preferences. Use Search your facts to find one.

Removing a fact means the agent no longer knows it. Resumes already written keep their words.

More than one resume

You can keep several resumes, for example one for teaching jobs and one for office jobs.

  1. Click the small button beside the resume's name. It shows how many you have, for example 2 resumes.
  2. Click a resume in the list to open it.
  3. Or choose New resume, Duplicate for this role or Delete this one.

Deleting a resume removes it with its cover letter and its chat. Versions already saved to your Library stay, and so do the facts the agent knows about you.

The circular arrow above the chat, New conversation, clears the chat only. The resume stays as it is.

Common questions

Do I need to know how to design a resume? No. Pick a layout and talk to the agent. It does the layout.

Will it make things up about me? It is meant to write only from what you tell it, your resume and your saved facts. Still, check every line before you send the resume to anyone.

Where is my finished resume? In the Library, under My files, in the Resumes folder.

I ran out of credits in the middle. The chat shows a card to ask for more. Your resume is kept as it is.

Can I use my old resume from a photo? Yes. Use Upload or pick my current resume and choose the picture.

Does the job description get saved? Yes, as a note in the Job descriptions workbook.
